Turkey earthquake: Ghana’s Christian Atsu reported being ‘trapped in rubble’

Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu, is reported to have been trapped in rubble after an earthquake in Turkey.

Multiple reports say the earthquake occurred on Monday dawn and it affected Turkey and Syria.

Currently, search and rescue efforts are underway.

Christian Astu, who plays for Hatayspor football club in Turkey, is among the victims.

Many Ghanaian social media users are praying for him.

Officials say more than 1,300 people have lost their lives in the disaster while a further 6,000 were injured.

Reacting to the devastating news, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement: “I convey my best wishes to all our citizens who were affected by the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and was felt in many parts of our country.”
