Young Ghanaian artiste, Eugene Marfo, well-known as Kuami Eugene, has disclosed that despite writing most of Mr. Drew’s hit song ‘Case’, he was never duly compensated for his work.
In a live conversation on social media with vlogger Naana Donkor Arthur, the Lynx Entertainment signee said that Mr. Drew was one of many artists he has written songs for and even though ‘Case’ was doing well on the market, he was yet to be paid.
“I was the one who wrote Mr. Drew’s hit song ‘Case’. I wrote about 80% of that song. In fact, before he came to record the song, the hook was already done so he just listened to it and recorded it. I do writings for other artists as well, it’s part of my job,” he said.
“I wish that in the entertainment industry, we understand that when someone does something like that for you, you just allocate what the person deserves to him and give the respect that is due so that we can move on as individuals, but that didn’t happen,” He continued.
An unhappy Kuami Eugene also said that Mr. Drew did not properly notify him before releasing the song and he only found out about its release through a different party.
“I was in America when he texted me that he wanted to drop the song. I was asleep when the message came through and didn’t see it due to the time difference between the US and Ghana. He didn’t call my manager or anyone. I only found out from someone who was there when I was writing the song that Drew had dropped the song. I texted him about it and he blue-ticked me,” He bemoaned.
Kuami Eugene added that even though he could take legal action against Mr. Drew, he would prefer for them to resolve the issue between themselves.
“I can actually make it a legal case but it’s not necessary. I think he should see me so that we can talk about it…I love peace, so me, Kaywa, him, whatever is going on, let’s have it fixed. He can send one split sheet and that will solve everything. I am saying this because he has seen my messages and has blue-ticked me as if he has not seen them, but the song is doing well on the market,” He added.
Kwami Eugene has written songs for artists including Kuame Yogot, Keche, and MzVee. He is also credited for Joyce Blessing’s newly released song, ‘Victory’.
