Sunyani Stakeholders for Development Association cries over Sunyani Airport reopening delay

The Chairman of the Sunyani Stakeholders for Development Association, Ambassador George Kumi has raised concerns about the nonfunctional Sunyani Airport.

The only airport in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions has been shut down for rehabilitation works for some years now.

Promises made by the government to reopen the airport are yet to be fulfilled.

In this vein, H.E George Kumi said at a press conference covered by Newshuntermag.com that Authorities must ensure that the airport is readied for use without further delays.

“Works to extend the runway at the Sunyani Airport to enable bigger planes to operate have been ongoing since 2019 and several completion dates have been set with all failing in the end. However major works to upgrade other airports in the country to international standards are taking place in earnest while brand new ones are being constructed in other Regional Capitals,” he stated.

H.E Kumi queried: “Nananom and residents wish to know whether we may have to organize community labour to assist in getting the Sunyani Airport operational.”

He added: “The strenuous and hazardous mode of commuting by road from Sunyani to Accra, the Nation’s capital makes it imperative for Authorities to ensure that the airport is readied for use without further delays.”

The well-versed politician stressed the Association’s readiness to demand what is due Sunyani and set developmental agendas.

He emphasized that Sunyani deserves better.
