Former Trade Minister and leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen has officially withdrawn from the party’s presidential flagbearer race.

He announced this in a press statement issued on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Among other things, Mr. Kyerematen cited what according to him were disappointing and despicable incidents that marked the NPP’s recently convened Super Delegates Conference.

“After having carefully analyzed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant”, he wrote.

He also cited the intimidation of several delegates, and instances of “violence and collusion” as some of the factors that have informed his decision to back out of the flagbearer race.

“The level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of Delegates at various Voting Centers across the sixteen regions, is unprecedented in the history of our Party.”

Mr. Kyerematen described the events as despicable and emphasized his resolve to protect the interests of those committed to his cause, hence, his withdrawal from the race.
