Ashanti Region: three feared dead after fuel tanker explosion at Onyinanufo; several people rendered homeless


Three people are feared dead following a fuel tanker explosion at Onyinanufo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

A report sighted by Newshuntermag.com said the driver and his mate perished after the diesel tanker exploded.

The sad incident happened at Onyinanufo near Wioso in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region.

According to eyewitnesses, the speeding tanker collided with a passenger vehicle—and sadly, it caught fire which led to this sad development on Monday, May 24.

“The fire swept through the community of about 400 to 500 inhabitants, destroying most of the houses they live in,” TV3’s Benjamin Audio reported.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) were deployed to the scene to control the fire.

A two-year-old boy is reported to have been burnt to death while many children in the community are yet to be found following the devastating incident.
